Earth Day Painting Tutorial-Blending Nature and Beauty

Introduction:

In this tutorial, I will guide you through the process of creating a painting that embodies the spirit of Earth Day. The artwork features a young girl with blue hair blending into the Earth, symbolizing our connection to and responsibility for the planet. We will cover the initial sketch, the coloring process, and the specific color codes used for different parts of the painting.

Materials Needed:

Step 1: Sketching the Composition

Begin by sketching the outline of the girl's face and hair. Use light, loose strokes to capture the basic shape and flow of the hair. Pay attention to the curvature of the face and the placement of features such as the eyes, nose, and lips. Next,Incorporate flowing lines to connect the girl's silhouette with the contours of the Earth behind her. Position the tree next to her profile, ensuring it complements the overall composition. Then, use Maui markers as colored fine liners for detailing,"Mark" the areas you want to draw. The purpose of the fine liner is to differentiate. So, you don't need to outline too precisely, After outlining, we can start coloring.

Step 2:Adding Color to the Girl's Face

Start with the lightest skin tone ( Y110 and apply it to the areas of the face that are more illuminated, such as the forehead, bridge of the nose, and cheekbones. Use a chesel tip for this step and blend the color smoothly.Switch to the medium skin tone ( R19 ) and apply it to the areas that are in shadow, such as the side of the face, under the jawline, and around the eye socket. Use a small round brush to add these details, keeping the strokes soft and blending them into the base tone.Blend the two skin tones together using Colorless Blender Marker. Add the darkest skin tone to the deepest shadow areas, such as the crease of the eye and the corner of the mouth, to create depth and dimension.Use the lightest skin tone again to add highlights to the highest points of the face, such as the tip of the nose, the cheekbones, and the chin. This will add a natural glow to the skin.
Now, let's add the blue tones  to the girl's face to merge with the Earth. Start with the lightest blue ( B030 ) and apply it to the areas where the Earth merges with her skin, such as the hairline and the edge of the face. Blend this color into the skin tones to create a seamless transition.Gradually add the mediumB050 )and dark blue  ( PB7 ) shades to intensify the effect of the Earth merging with her skin. Focus on areas where shadows would naturally fall, such as under the jawline and around the hairline. Blend these colors carefully to maintain a soft transition.Add final touches of highlights and shadows to refine the details of the face. Use a small brush to add fine lines and textures, such as hair strands and eyelashes. Step back and assess the overall effect, making any necessary adjustments to balance the colors and enhance the realism.

Step 3: Coloring the Earth

For the Earth, mix blue with a touch of green to create a turquoise shade. Apply this color to the Earth, leaving some parts lighter ( B030and some darker  ( PB7to create depth. For the background, use a light blue tone ( B030 ) .Using a small brush, add details to the Earth such as continents and oceans. Use varying shades of blue and green ( GY1/G340 ) to create a realistic look. Blend the colors softly to avoid harsh lines.Fill the background around the Earth with a darker blue tone. Use broad strokes to create a smooth, even finish.

Step 4:Coloring the Tree

Start painting the girl's hair with a base blue color ( B030 ) . Then, using a wet-on-wet technique, blend white0 ) into the blue to create highlights and depth. Add darker blue ( PB7 ) shades for shadows. Then color the tree next to the girl using brown ( BR2/YR10/Y145 )  and green ( GY1 ) tones. Use a small brush to add texture to the trunk and branches.Dip a round brush into green GY1 ) paint and lightly dab it on the canvas to create the foliage ( G1/G2 of the tree. Vary the shades of green and the density of leaves to add depth and realism.Use a dry brush technique to blend the edges of the Earth into the background, creating a seamless transition. Blend the tree into the Earth to create a natural connection between the two elements.Add highlights to the Earth using white ( 0 ) paint to simulate clouds and reflections. Add highlights to the tree using lighter shades of green and yellow ( FY010 ) to create a sense of light and depth.
Finally, let's draw the grass.Use fluorescent green and light green to fill the grass color,Use a darker shade of green to draw the shadows, then use strokes to draw the shape of the grass.

Step 5: Final Touches

Once the main elements are painted, add any additional details or highlights to enhance the overall look of the painting. Ensure the colors blend seamlessly to create a cohesive composition.
